内容摘要： 20世纪前期，中央研究院历史语言研究所和大夏大学社会研究部先后开展了两次深入苗疆腹地的考察。这些学术活动是一种具有“国族主义”的现代性视野在西南边疆地区的延伸，使得“边疆”这一概念所蕴含的现代性表征图景得到在地化的实现，并促生了一批苗族地方精英对本民族的重新审视和现代叙述。这种民族意识和学术视野的传递，不仅形塑了当时边疆学术研究的现实知识情景与思想实践内容，也奠定了现代中国对苗疆的构想图景与书写范式。

Abstract: In the early 20th century, the Institute of History and Philology of Academia Sinica and the Sociology Department of Daxia University supported two academic projects in the Miao area. The research extended the modern idea of ＂nationalism＂ to the borderland, and as a result, promoted some local Miao elite to reexamine Miao culture and its modernity. All these efforts constituted the context and content of their academic research, and helped shape the way of narration about the Miao and the borderland.
